Being a student can be both an exciting venture as well as a daunting experience. Research highlights that students are more likely to view the different demands of student life as a hassle (emotional distress) which may impact on the student’s learning experience and academic achievements. Another equally important point to be acknowledged, emphasises that some students may consider that being able to manage all the different demands that student life presents as an overwhelming challenge; resulting indepression, high levels of anxiety and stress.

Noting this, DSA provides funding to assist student’s  with the extra financial support they may occur  whilst studying.   In fact, student’s receive an individual needs assessment from a independent assessor.  This assessment generates the student’s individual needs assessment , providing student’s with the funds and opportunity to receive tailored one to one support  inline with their needs assessment.

Having a ‘Specialist Mentor’ helps you overcome the different challenges you may encounter as a student, with the aim to increase your own management strategies whilst alleviating the distress you experience.  Thus, allowing you to dedicate your time and energy to live your student life the way you wish to. In fact a ‘Specialist Mentor’ assists you to become an independent learner and the best you want to be in education.

Kathryn is an Accredited CBP Practitioner with considerable knowledge and experience of the various challenges that students face daily living with a disability (mental health condition, Autism & sight impairment etc.…). She holds an MSc Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapies and has real life experience of student life within a higher educational establishment.   She has a warm friendly manner and offers a supportive learning environment to all her students. Kathryn is dedicated to helping disabled students be the best they can be in education and assisting people to improve their own quality of life.
